How we make it like the original Dave Grohl Clear Guitar

We are a small but professional guitar custom shop, and we have established a set of controllable processing system to ensure the quality.

1.The material

A lot of cheap clear guitars are built with organic plastics, whose texture and transparency are both very poor. But the material we use is acrylic polymer, just the same as the original, so the guitar looks Crystalline and clear. And compared to wood material, acrylic polymer has no dead resonance but with steady character, and won’t be weathered. The pickguard of this guitar is the wooden pickguard, also the same as the original----rosewood. Rosewood can be protective to the body and conducive to body resonance, meanwhile rosewood will also make the body look more beautiful. our wood nature is the same as the original: maple body,1-piece mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, they are all carefully selected imported wood, not inferior timber.Strict moisture inspection has been done before the building, so that the neck will not be easy to deform because of the excessive weather changes, so that the guitar will not have fret buzz issues.Besides, 1-piece wood isn’t easy to crack, while some other low-end replica headstock wood is spliced, which is particularly vulnerable to rupture.

2.About the hardware ( This determines the price )

The original guitar is fixed with Rosewood with compensated brass saddles pickups and Grover nickel die-cast tuners, In addition to the original configuration, we can also offer middle and low parts, all our hardwares are bulk purchased, we can get the lowest price in the market, that’s why our prices are so low, Besides, our hardwares are acknowledged by our customers for long, almost no complaints, and you can choose the configuration you want, of course, the original pickups sounds most close to original guitar, but you can also get the good performance using the low-end pickups coupled with excellent effects, so you needn’t just pursuit the best accessories if you have a budget.

3.Hand feeling

First we can ensure the smooth of the frets end, which will never let you feel any injured , we have the special person for polishing the frets end. And we can provide personalized custom services on this, we like different neck profile and thickness because of our different palms , the original neck has fairly flat radius, if you have your any special preferences, please feel free to email us your needs, We can make it following your requirements free of charge we believe other copy sellers whose price is the same with us won’t know these details well like us, they also cannot make it like us , you can just ask them how this neck feels.we guess they cannnot give you an answer.

4.The signature

The signature on the pickguard is finished through silkscreen,Before the printing, our professional cartographers will do the drawing first totally following the original font size, color and position.

5.The similarity

Just like your pursuit of music, we build every guitar with great rigor. Before the construction of any guitar, first, we will have professional cartographers draw the blueprint strictly according to the original guitar and try our best to keep every detail the same with original, not only the size, the shape of body, the position and the thickness of pick-guard, but also the location of keys and tuners, even for the size of the screws on the back.

6. Fret End Beveling

We particularly pay attention to the the details of the fretwire, especially the fretwire ends, never let the customers feel uncomfortable.

Typically the ends of the frets where they meet the edge of the fretboard a very sharp when the frets are first installed.  Most players at least once have played a guitar that had sharp fret ends. It is really uncomfortable to say the least and in extreme cases can actually cut your hand. Very skilled builders will take a great deal of time to round the edges of the fret as well as make sure that the fret end itself is in line with the edge of the fretboard and not protruding where it catches a players hand. This makes a world of difference in how the guitar feels. Master builders will spend a great deal of time to round off sharp edges, blending the fret into the edge of the fretboard.

During this step, handworking can not be replaced by the machine, a skilled luthier have to spend at least 4-8 hours to make sure of the perfectness of the Fret End Beveling, so the manpower cost here is very high. Some low-end guitar sellers usually spend only serval minutes on this point, just want to reduce the cost, We here can promise that we will try our best to do a careful job on this point at any cost, we know this is very important to our customers's satisfaction!

7. Special carbon fiber nut and bone nut

The nut we use is carbon fiber nut and bone nut, not the low-quality plastic nut. As we all know, the guitar sound is not only related with the materials, the craftsmanship, the string quality, the playing skill, but also with nut quality, which is always neglected by many factories, the common plastic nut make the sound week, muffled, as well as short after sound, but the carbon fiber nut and bone nut give us powerful and bright sound, also with long after sound.

Many upscale guitars are built with animal bones, and facts also prove that animal bones can remarkably improve the volume and the tone, carbon fiber nut will be better than plastic, although can not be compared with the bones, but also has great positive impact on the volume and the tone. The common color is black!

In order to make sure of the delivery safety and avoid the breakage, extrusion or crack, we use professional package and we have different bubble wrap corresponding with different guitar body shape, this will also cost much, since September, our damage rate has dropped to 0%, before our damage rate was around 2% -3 % due to the transport company's rough handling, which caused serious. Besides, to ensure our customers' interest, we have the shipping insurance for each guitar, and we will make compensation for you if any damage happens again in transit.About delivery safety.

We have professional designers to do the custom drawing using professional softwares and other design tools to design the exact guitar you want, And we can provide personalized custom services on this, because we like different neck profile and thickness because of our different palms. This clear acrylic polymer guitar has high demands for the techniques and the appearance. For example, the wiring in the body should to be tidy and beautiful, the body should be highly transparent, and any slight wear also should be avoided during the processing and shipping. Therefore, you can find that the price of this guitar is at least $2000 on ebay.

In the shopping cart on our site, you can also see the actual photos which we take during the construction.Regardless of the similarity with original guitar, or the quality of the hardware, our custom guitar is the best. And the most important is that our price is rather affordable, which can meet your requirement for the quality, and save you unnecessary expenses at the same time.

 AMPEG HISTORY

Nineteen sixty-nine was a weird year. No doubt about it. Confusion reigned:   the cities were still smoking from riots, boys were becoming indistinguishable from girls, and bell-bottom corduroys were the height of fashion.

Ampeg was facing an identity crisis of its own. Their line of combo bass and guitar amps couldn't compete with the high-output rock and roll animals that competitors were offering. They needed a dose of modernization and they needed it quick. So in an attempt to create an amplifier somebody other than bald, pipe-smoking jazz cats would buy, Ampeg enlisted the expertise of respected guitar and amp tech Dan Armstrong to consult on new amplifier development.

Sometime during this period of brainstorming, Armstrong posed a heavy question to Ampeg: "Since you make amplifiers for guitar and bass, have you ever considered making a line of guitars and basses?" In truth, Ampeg had imported some guitars in the early '60s, as well as produced a line of electric upright "Baby Basses," but both efforts were about as popular as J. Edgar Hoover at a Black Panther rally. Realizing the Socratic purity of Armstrong's logic, the Ampeg executives took Armstrong's idea to heart, and set out to produce a line of instruments that were cool, hip, and groovy.

Ampeg charged Armstrong to conceive and build a prototype bass and guitar overflowing with a sense of "what's happenin' now." Armed with a head full of ideas, and most likely an advance from Ampeg, Armstrong hit the road to put his head in the proper space for the task at hand. Mescalito must have been whispering the secrets of the Aztec gods into Dan's ear on that trip, because he returned with a design so cool and advanced, it blew players' minds... and drove the Japanese copycat manufacturers to the brink of seppuku.

When introduced at the 1969 NAMM show in Chicago, the Ampeg Dan Armstrong guitar and bass caused slack-jawed envy and admiration. With bodies made of clear Plexiglas, Armstrong forever freed plastic from the bonds of having to imitate other materials, and let people see it for the beautiful substance it is. The choice of Plexiglas went deeper than mere visuals, however. Armstrong found Plexiglas incredibly dense—a property that greatly enhanced the instrument's properties of sustain.

Another revolutionary concept incorporated in the now christened "see through" instruments was their 24-frets clear-of-the-body design. This was inventive stuff! Armstrong also anticipated the clear guitar's popularity as a slide instrument by specially designing the lower bout with a unique cut-away, enhancing the player's reach to the uppermost frets.

Electronically, the guitar was a marvel. Featuring a series of quick-change pickups, players could pop in one of six pickups specially designed for varying styles, such as jazz, rock, and country music. The tone circuit was equally innovative, with the three-position switch featuring a full volume setting, allowing for a quick volume boost for those 20-minute solos players were so enamored of in those innocent days.

Of course, the Dan Armstrong guitars and basses were a big hit with rock stars of the day (due in part to the fact that many of them got theirs for free). Keith Richards and Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones tore it up with a see-through guitar and bass on the band's landmark 1969 world tour, while other renowned Dan Armstrong users of the time included Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, Leslie West, and Geezer Butler. Of course these instruments sounded incredible, but ego may have played an ugly part in their rock star popularity—why spend all that money on velvet trousers from Granny Takes A Trip, only to have your ample rock star crotch covered by a plank of wood? With the Dan Armstrong, it was all visible for the world to see.

Unfortunately, like many cool human endeavors, the Ampeg/Dan Armstrong relationship was eventually doomed. Contractual disputes and production difficulties resulted in the severing of relations between the two parties in 1971, making the original Dan Armstrong guitars and basses rare finds in these troubled times.

But alas, all is not lost. For those seeking the iconic look and sound of the original Dan Armstrong instruments, Ampeg has painstakingly re-created these hard-to-find guitars from the ground up. Incredible sustain and supersonic style are back... for those who just have to get their ya-ya's out the Plexiglass way.
