Paul Gilbert's Guitar Life
Paul Gilbert, the renowned guitar master scored NO.4 in the fast performers list of Young Guitar 2003, is a experienced teacher in GIT guitar college. He merged new classical, blues and rock into the quick picking with beautiful melody and unique style, and his major skills are speed picking and string jumping. He emerged along with band Racer X and was the former guitarist in the famous band Metallica. When Mr.Big dismissed, he went on a solo career and then restructured Racer X, primarily presenting Rock Blues style. His principal instruments are Ibane PGM series instruments.
PGM300 is a member of PGM series and is the signature style of the well-known US guitar player Gilbert. This PGM300 features DiMario pickups, double locking tremolo system, basswood body, wizard neck, maple fingerboard. PGM300 is the 2nd design, as well as the final design that has this double locking tremolo system in PGM series electric guitar. At the same time, PGM300 also possesses Paul Gilbert's signature F-hole tone control.
In 2003, Paul Gilbert changed the wire board of the PGM300 with a fastened one himself and altered it to be the hard-tail, which actually is the later creation pgm301. The most primitive PGM300 was ceased in 2004. It is the product with the longest output line in the PGM series.
PGM300re was published to be a reissue edition of the PGM300 on its twentieth anniversary in 2009.
Paul Gilbert talked about PGM300,"The PGM300 is probably the PGM guitar that I played the most out of any of them. PGM300 was really the workhorse, the most punished guitar, PGM300 that took the most abuse and kept on going. I used PGM300 during the peak of Mr. Big's success in Japan, when we were headlining three nights at the Buddokhan.PGM300 always sounded great. To me, one of the unique things about PGM300, for whatever reason, was that it cleaned up really nice. Whenever I would use the 5-way switch and click it over one click to use the single coil and the split-coil humbucker together and turn the volume on the PGM300down, I'd get this really nice glassy sound. I remember playing PGM300 on the Tonight Show, doing a song called "Just Take My Heart" that had a really clean sound. PGM300 just sounded beautiful on that. There was no channel switching necessary. I just plugged it into a cranked up Marshall, turned the volume down, and got this beautiful, clear, shimmering sound. Of course when you crank it up, it was total metal. So that was PGM300 that my hands have spent the most time on out of any of the PGMs. I think my chest cavity has modified to its shape. PGM300 is a very very dear guitar to me. I've spent so much time with PGM300. I love PGM300. You will, too. The PGM300."To be one in the PGM series, and also a Paul Gilbert signature design, Ibanez PGM301 was made in the year 2003 in line with the PGM300. All matches the PGM300, except the pickguard and bridge setting. He also commented PGM301,"So after years and years and years of playing my PGM guitars, I started to come up with my favorite small details. The PGM301 is the culmination of these details. For one thing and probably the most unique about it, it's non-trem. There's no tremolo bar on it. It does have that really solid feel of a non-tremolo bridge. To me, it's a little more Spartan of a guitar. It makes me have big calluses on my hand. I think I improve as a player from having to get the vibrato with my left hand rather than using the whammy. It's a very simple guitar, but the important work on the guitar is done on the things that matter most. The action is great, the tone is great, and the playability is great. It's a really reliable workhorse of a guitar. It always sounds great. I've done a million shows with that one. In fact, the PGM300 is really just a PGM301. It just doesn't look as good, because I cut it up and did all those modifications to it. The PGM301 is the result. It's nice and clean. Enjoy the PGM301. That's the one I play. Thank you so much."
We examined very hard on the above described features of PGM300 and duplicated this PGM300 as near as possible to the first PGM300. All woods are exactly the same as the authentic PGM300, for example fingerboard wood, neck wood and body wood of PGM300(all high quality woods). The defaulting pickups of PGM300 we used are Wilkinson pick-ups, which is quality assured and cost-effective.Since we batch made the PGM300 with a small number, the price, compared to those custom crafted ones, is significantly more affordable.
